Overall you can’t participate in test skates, but in the future it’s cool to play in tournaments. At one point we had closed test pads in Novogorsk. Then we could even split the short programs into two or three parts, since we weren’t actually ready for the season yet at that point. This did not, however, prevent figure skaters of the 1990s and 2000s from becoming European, World and Olympic champions in the same seasons.
Just recently, figure skating has become so popular that the FFKKR has offered a more open format for Russian team member skaters in the form of demonstration performances. But these test pads themselves do not oblige you to do anything. Yes, this season it is not possible to participate in international competitions, but last year there was an opportunity to compete on the world stage, and there were the same test skates, they did not were no different.
It is a knowledge of new productions, even more attention is paid to it than to the form in which the athletes are at the moment. And even more, perhaps, the emphasis is on the fact that it should be a demonstration performance for the people, the fans. After all, any specialist in the field of figure skating can come to the training base of this or that athlete, if he is interested in staging, and watch it there. So they are control skates in the truest sense of the word – the skaters just skate, show off, but they don’t have to. The trial skates can be compared to a slightly more nervous big open training. Spectators get the biggest bonus here because it’s the first meeting of the season with their favorite athletes,” Yagudin told .
