Northern European countries are against the participation of aggressor countries in international competitions
Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Vadim Gutzeit responded to statement by the Nordic Olympic Committeeswho supported removal of Russians and Belarusians until the end of the military aggression against Ukraine.
“Scandinavian sports organizations announced their clear position regarding the inadmissibility of the return of Russians and Belarusians to international sports during the annual meeting held in Oslo, Norway. As long as the aggression against Ukraine continues, the question of their return cannot even be discussed.”
“The Northern Olympic Committees, Paralympic Committees and sports confederations called on the Olympic, Paralympic Movement and all international sports organizations to continue to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people and demand peace, supported the recommendations to prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international sports.”
The International Ski Federation (FIS) may remove the ban from representatives of the Russian and Belarusian federations. The final decision will be made on October 22.
Recall that, thanks to the appeal of the Ukrainian Ski Federation, FIS suspended the membership of Russian and Belarusian national federations and the activities of all officials representing them for the entire summer season.
The World Cup in cross-country skiing and biathlon starts on November 25th. The World Cup is scheduled for February and March 2023.
