Russian driver Nikolai Gryazin hopes to compete with a Bulgarian license in the new season of the World Rally Championship in the WRC-2 class, said President of the Bulgarian Automobile Federation Plamen Ivanov.
Gryazin has competed in neutral status since 2022.
— We are in the final stage of collecting documents to complete the process. The last thing left is the permission of the Russian Automobile Federation that Gryazin can compete with a Bulgarian license. I believe everything will become clear in a few days. The deadline for applications for the Monte Carlo Rally will begin at the end of January, then the 2024 World Rally Championship will begin, Sportal.bg quoted Plamen Ivanov as saying.
In the 2024 season, Gryazin and his co-driver Konstantin Alexandrov, who will most likely compete with a Latvian license, will represent the Citroën Sport team in the WRC‑2 category.
Currently, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) allows Russian and Belarusian drivers to compete only under a neutral flag and subject to signing a special declaration. For this reason, most Russians quit international racing or changed their racing license, such as Daniil Kvyat (Italian) and Robert Schwartzman (Israeli).
