Winner of the Dakar rally, driver of the KAMAZ-master team Airat Mardeev told that he calmly made the decision to skip the Silk Way rally marathon and did not intend to end his sporting career.
The Silk Road Rally will take place from July 5 to 15 across Russia and Mongolia. The KAMAZ-master team will be represented by five crews led by Eduard Nikolaev, Dmitry Sotnikov, Andrey Karginov, Bogdan Karimov and Sergey Kupriyanov.
— What did you think of the decision not to be one of the Silk Road pilots?
– Calmly. Since last year, I have had new responsibilities on the karting track. On the Silk Road, the team must show high results, therefore the choice of crews was made on more experienced drivers.
— Do you miss racing?
— I’m not particularly bored, I go out for exams. At least tomorrow I’m ready to get back behind the wheel and race. We are all active pilots, no one hangs up their helmet.
