Teams are counting on the Frenchman and Canadian for the foreseeable future
Two pilots at once Formula 1 Today we extended contracts with our teams. Pierre Gasly restructured his relationship with AlpinA Lance Stroll put an end to speculation about a possible departure by signing a new agreement with Aston Martin.
The Frenchman will reportedly remain Alpin’s driver “into 2025 and beyond”, while the Canadian will remain with the British team until at least 2026. Let us remember that in the summer of 2023, Aston Martin team director Mike Krak stated that there was “no noticeable performance gap” between Stroll and the team’s leading driver, two-time world champion Fernando Alonso.
It is interesting that Gasly had previously replaced Alonso in the French team, having moved from Red Bull, where he spent nine years.
Alpin, as it became known recently, will part ways with fellow driver Esteban Ocon at the end of the season. Therefore, it was doubly important for her to keep Gasly in her composition. Various names have been floated as Pierre’s future team-mate, including current Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz and Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas.
This season, neither Gasly nor Stroll have ever managed to climb onto the podium. Lance finished in the top 10 four times, Pierre managed this three times – but at the last three stages in a row. In the Constructors’ Championship, Aston Martin is fifth with 58 points, Alpin is seventh (8 points).
