Christian Garin says goodbye to Noumea Challenger and now focuses on the Australian Open

The Chilean number one comes from three solid victories in the previous phases. However, the Italian Raul Brancaccio has put an end to his participation in the semi-final of the tournament organized in New Caledonia. Now, Gago must prepare to face the Australian Open, his next challenge.

The solid participation of Christian Garin (85th in the ATP) in the first tournament of the year has come to an end. After reaching the semi-finals of the tournament, the native of Arica faced the Italian Raul Brancaccio (194th in the ATP) in a duel that lasted just over two hours and twenty minutes.

And this meeting started in the best possible way for Garin, since the 26-year-old Chilean lHe managed to complete the first set of the match without major complications for a comfortable result of 6-1 which continued to raise hopes of reaching the finals of the contest.

However, Brancaccio would not be outdone and would manage to elevate his performance in the second set, while the reverse happened for Gago. After 10 hard-fought matches, the Italian achieved a result of 6-4 which meant Garin’s first set loss of the entire tournament.

Finally, the third set meant the last farewell to the tournament for the national number one racquet. Brancaccio imposed his mood on the rise and beat the Chilean 6-3 , who had an increasingly poor performance during the game. In fact, of the 13 chances he had to break serve, he was only able to do so three times.

So the end result was a 1-6, 6-4 and 6-3 in favor of Raul Brancaccio who will play the final of the tournament played on ocean land against Frenchman Laurent Lokoli (204th) on Saturday at 1:00 a.m.

Garin says goodbye to a tournament for which, until a day ago, he was a firm contender for his three straight wins with zero sets lost. Their first game was a comfortable victory against the Australian Jake Delaney (1.226°) by 6-4 and 6-2 . In the round of 16, the Chilean beat the Australian Thomas Fancut (532°) by a result of 6-3 and 6-3 buttoning the pass for the quarter-finals.

In the round of the eight best, the “Tanque” imposed its category against the young Argentinian tennis player Professor Diaz (191°), who was his highest ranked rival in the entire tournament . This result ended up being a doubled 7-5 highly contested.

What future for Chilean tennis?

After Garin’s bitter loss at the Nouméa Challenger, his next challenge will be the Australian Open which starts on January 16 and ends on January 29. This is the first Grand Slam of the year, for which Gago entered directly into the main draw. Alejandro Tabilo (100th), Nicolás Jarry (152nd) and Tomás Barrios (230th), who must start from the qualy, will also participate in the said event.

After said tournament, the Davis Cup will be held at La Serena on February 4-5, in which Chile will face Kazakhstan, who recently announced their squad. Nicolás Massú, for his part, also has the team ready, since he will take the five highest ranked national tennis players in the ranking, which would be those mentioned Christian Garin, Alejandro Tabilo, Nicolás Jarry, Tomás Barrios and the “León” Gonzalo Lama (261°) to complete the list.
