In Oakland, Venus Williams defeated Katy Wolynets 7-6, 6-2. The win was her first since Wimbledon 2021. In the second match of the tournament, Venus Williams lost to Zhu Lin.
The Australian Open press service reported that the wild card had been given to 24-year-old Australian Kimberly Birrell.
The Australian Open 2023 will be held from January 16-29 this year.
