Honored coach of Russia Viktor Yanchuk, in a conversation with , said that the news that the British Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) may be deprived of the right to organize tournaments under the auspices of the ATP and WTA if Russian athletes are not allowed is an indicator that the community represents Russians.
Earlier, the English newspaper Daily Mail reported that the probability of LTA suspension is very high if the organization again bans Russian and Belarusian tennis players from participating in their tournaments. In this case, the hosting rights for the competition may be put up for sale.
– Interestingly, there is a consolidation of the tennis fraternity, since Russian tennis players are allowed in all other tournaments. The fact that Britain did not let us in last year gave the public reason to be outraged, as a result the majority took our position. It’s a positive fact, it should be so, I’m happy about it and I’ll follow the development of the story further,” Yanchuk told .
Russian and Belarusian tennis players have been suspended from the Wimbledon tournament in 2022 due to events in Ukraine. Later, the competition organizers were fined $1 million and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) stripped the tournament of scoring points.
Wimbledon 2023 will take place from July 3-16.
