Svitolina: I don’t want to pick up a racket again, all my strength is now directed to help Ukraine

Elina became UNITED24 platform ambassador

Elina Svitolina commented on the start of her work as an ambassador of the UNITED24 platform, created on the initiative of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

Svitolina became the second ambassador of UNITED24 after Andriy Shevchenko. In March, Elina took a break from her tennis career amid a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The UNITED24 platform was created to provide financial assistance to the Armed Forces and defenders of Ukraine, civilians, as well as to restore Ukraine from the consequences of Russian military aggression.

“Now all my efforts are directed to a charitable foundation and how I can help Ukraine. I don’t want to pick up a racket again. As soon as the war started, it was very hard for me to go on court and perform, seeing what all Ukrainians and those people who defend our country go through. Therefore, this is now a great motivation to help and try to do something for Ukraine, which has given me a lot,” said Elina.

“Thanks to the UNITED24 platform, we will try to raise funds to help Ukraine. This is the biggest task for Andriy Shevchenko and I at the moment – to do everything possible so that the world does not forget about the war, so that there is as much attention as possible to Ukraine, so that people do not forget about us and understand that we need help more than ever. To raise funds, we have planned 5-6 events before the end of the year. These are charity matches, auctions, various meetings with sponsors.”

“By such events, as, for example, Andriy Shevchenko held yesterday, we remind you that we still have a war going on, we are in a state where we need help. With such events, which are also planned on my part, we will try to show what is happening and how these people can help us.”

“At the moment, it is known that about $55 million has already been collected as part of the UNITED24 charity initiative. Recall that this assistance covers three areas: defense and demining, medical assistance and restoration of Ukraine.”

“Once the funds are raised, we will see which of UNITED24’s destinations will be the hottest at the time. Everything will depend on the state in which Ukraine is now and what will be most needed. We will focus on this in order to acquire exactly what is needed at the moment. If I could choose, then such areas as medicine and helping children are personally important to me. This is one of the big goals for me. But I understand that Ukraine needs help in all areas. When we win, help to restore infrastructure will be very important. At the moment, I will focus more on medicine, although I want to help in all areas in which UNITED24 works.”
