Russian tennis player Karen Khachanov has dropped out of the UK Grand Slam tournament, according to the competition organizers’ website.
Khachanov will miss Wimbledon with a stress fracture, the Russian will be substituted Francisco Cherundolo from Argentina. The last time Khachanov stepped onto the court was in the Roland Garros quarter-finals, where he lost to eventual tournament winner Novak Djokovic of Serbia. After that, the 27-year-old tennis player missed the grass court tournament in Halle due to injury. He is currently ranked 11th in the ATP rankings.
In early June, it was reported that the majority of Russian tennis players were having difficulty obtaining UK visas to play at Wimbledon. Khachanov then admitted that he already had all the necessary documents.
Earlier, organizers of the Grand Slam tournament in the UK called out conditions for Russian tennis players to compete in neutral status, noting that they must sign a special declaration. Russians Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Aslan Karatsev, Alexander Shevchenko and Roman Safiullin are now on the entry list for the Wimbledon men’s draw.
Wimbledon 2023 will take place from July 3-16.
