Russian tennis player Ludmila Samsonova said the organizers of the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal, Canada should have avoided holding two matches in one day.
On Sunday, Samsonova was beaten by an American Jessica Pegula in the final of the tournament in Montreal – 1:6, 0:6. Samsonova held the second game of the day, as a semi-final against the representative of Kazakhstan Elena Rybakina was postponed due to rain.
“I still don’t realize what happened, because it was a very difficult week. Lots of games, lots of experiences, capricious weather, but in the end I got a very good result and I’m very happy .
– Two games two hours apart, isn’t that too much?
– I think so. I wish I had more time, but the organizers said it was impossible. It’s normal, but it’s strange that people don’t care about us. You don’t have to set up a schedule that includes two matches on the same day. It’s my point of view.
– Did you feel that the match would be so difficult?
– No, I know Jessica, I know how she plays. Difficult opponent. I no longer had much strength. I tried to do my best, but today was not enough.
What did you do in the two hours between games to recover?
I didn’t have time to recover. I went to a physiotherapist, but it takes a few hours. I left the court, then I came back. It was strange,” Samsonova told a news conference.
Samsonova occupies the 12th position in the world ranking, the 24-year-old tennis player has four WTA titles in the personal category.
