Nadal: “Maybe next year will be the last of my career, but I’m not 100% sure.” Maybe I’ll do a farewell tour.

Former Spanish world number one Rafael Nadal said he still plans to retire in 2024, but it will all depend on his physical condition.

In May, the 37-year-old announced he had to take a break from his career to recover from a hip injury.

— I said that 2024 might be my last year of my professional career, but I can’t confirm that 100%, because I’m not sure. I would like to play again and be competitive again. I don’t expect to win Roland Garros or the Australian Open, it’s still far away. I am well aware of the difficulties I face, one insurmountable is age and the other is health problems. What gives me hope is the opportunity to compete again,” Nadal said, as quoted by AFP.

He also admitted that he would be doing a farewell tour.

— After the Indian Wells 2022 tournament, it was a difficult year and a half, and there was no peace of mind at all. There was no way to recover from it without surgery. I don’t know exactly what I will do in 2024. Hopefully in two months everything will become clearer. Maybe I’d like a farewell tour. I live every day with the hope of having a choice. My physical and mental state will tell me,” said the Spaniard, quoted by Eurosport.

Nadal has won 22 Grand Slam singles titles, just behind Serbia’s Novak Djokovic (24).
