Monfils started the tournament with victories over Marton Fucsovics, Filip Misolic and Adrian Mannarino to reach the semi-finals. He then faced Laszlo Djere for a spot in the main event of the tournament.
Monfils quickly took a 4-0 lead in the first set. Djere closed the gap by winning the next three matches. Then the Frenchman had a set point on his opponent’s serve with the score 5-3, but could not close the match.
Monfils also failed to close out the set at 5-4, as Diere fought back to level the score. However, Monfils fought back, winning the next two games and winning the set without going to a tiebreaker.
Monfils also took a 4-0 lead in the second set, but this time he did not squander his advantage. He won the match 7-5, 6-2 to reach his first final of the season.
Kotov qualified and then beat Christopher Eubanks, Lorenzo Sonego and Tallon Grickspoor. In the semi-final, he faced Miomir Kecmanovic.
Kotovu broke in each set to win the match 6-3, 6-4 and reach his first career ATP final.
This will be the tennis players’ first meeting, they have never faced each other before.
