Sinner opened the ATP 500 tournament with a 7-6(2), 7-5 victory over Ben Shelton, avenging the American’s defeat at the Shanghai Masters. He followed it up with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over compatriot Lorenzo Sonego to secure his place in the quarter-finals. Here, the Italian faced seventh seed Francis Tiafoe and earned a break in the second game. It was enough to win the first set with a score of 6-3.
