18-time tennis champion of the USSR, commentator Anna Dmitrieva believes that the words of the tennis player Olga Savchuk about the world’s first racket Daniel Medvedev discussed only because of his Ukrainian origin.
Previously, the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) decided not to award points to Wimbledon participants in response to the suspension of athletes from Russia and Belarus. Savchuk erroneously stated that for this reason Medvedev topped the ATP rankings and was outraged by this line-up.
– Yes, and God bless her. Who is Savchuk? They pay attention to her, since she is from Ukraine. Medvedev was number one even before Wimbledon – now it will just be longer. But that has nothing to do with political decisions. Only with the fact that Wimbledon did not invite Russian players, and the ATP, believing this to be unfair, deprived the tournament of points. Savchuk can say anything, – said Dmitrieva “Championship”.
Medvedev topped the ATP rankings for the first time at the end of February. He has 13 titles under the auspices of the ATP, in 2021 he became the winner of the US Open.
