Athletistic / Tennis. The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) will not apply sanctions against athletes who participate in the exhibition tournament in St. Petersburg. Reuters reports this with reference to a statement from the organization’s press service.

The Northern Palmyra Trophies tournament will be held in Saint Petersburg from December 1 to 3, 2023.

“The event is not associated with the WTA. The organization has nothing to do with its holding.

WTA tennis players compete as independent athletes. They can participate in off-season tournaments without any penalty,” the statement said.

Participation in the tournament was confirmed by Russians Veronika Kudermetova, Anastasia Potapova and Diana Schneider, as well as Russians Karen Khachanov, Alexander Shevchenko and Yaroslav Demin. Serbians Dusan Lajovic and Laszlo Djere will also come to St. Petersburg. Kazakh Alexander Bublik and Bulgarian Victoria Tomova are also expected at the tournament.
