For the first time in history: seven Ukrainian tennis players will perform in the main draw of the Australian Open

Three tennis players successfully qualified

For the first time in history seven Ukrainian tennis players will compete in the main draw Australian Open. Ukraine achieved a similar achievement at Roland Garros 2007 and Wimbledon 2008.

Made it through the qualifying stage for AO-2024 Dayana Yastremskaya, as well as the debutants of the tournament – Daria Snigur And Yulia Starodubtseva. The first racket of Ukraine is announced in the main draw of the tournament Elina Svitolina, Angelina Kalinina, Marta Kostyuk And Lesya Tsurenko.

The Ukrainians’ opponents in the first round of the Australian Open are already known. Svitolina will meet wild card holder Tayla Preston from Australia. Kalinina will play against the representative of the Netherlands Arancha Rus. Tsurenko will face Lucia Bronzetti from Italy, and Kostyuk’s opponent will be American Claire Liu.

The winners of the qualification (Yastremskaya, Snigur, Starodubtseva) also found out their next opponents. Yastremskaya will play against Czech Marketa Vondrousova in the first round, Snigur will face Alicia Parks from the USA, and Starodubtseva will fight Ons Jabeur from Tunisia.

Let us remind you that four representatives of Ukraine (Kalinina, Kostyuk and the Kichenok sisters) will play in doubles. Ukrainian Denis Molchanov entered the main draw of the men’s duet competition together with Serbian Nikola Cacic.

The main singles stage of the Australian Open 2024 starts on the night of January 14.
