After missing the first round as the top seed, Rybakina faced Danielle Collins in the second round and made a comeback, winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. She then faced Spain’s Cristina Bucha in the quarter-finals.
Rybakina easily won the first set, losing only 1 game. The Spaniard improved her level of play and led 3-1 at the start of the second set, but after that Rybakina took over, winning five of the next six games to claim a 6-1, 6-4 victory.
Samsonova defeated Lesya Tsurenko with a score of 6-0, 6-1 in the first round. She then won a crushing victory over another Ukrainian, Angelina Kalinina, with a score of 6-1, 6-3 and reached the quarterfinals, where fourth seed Barbora Krejcikova awaited her.
Samsonova started the match with a break and held the advantage until serving for the set. At that point, Krejcikova fought back and leveled the score, but the next two games stayed with Samsonova and the Russian won the first set.
Samsonova broke her opponent’s serve twice in the second set and took a 5-2 lead. Krejcikova then won two matches in a row, but Samsonova then finished the match with a score of 7-5, 6-4.
