Athletistic/Tennis. It’s time for the Sunshine Double as the Indian Wells Masters, officially known as the BNP Paribas Open, gets underway first. It will take place from March 6 to 17.

The main favorites for the men’s singles tournament:

Andrei Rublev

Although he doesn’t like courts, the Russian has already reached the semi-finals in Indian Wells. Then during the season, he won the ATP 1000 Masters tournament in Monte Carlo.

With his newfound confidence, Rublev has since reached the quarter-finals of every Grand Slam tournament. Given his recent results, he should be considered a serious contender.

Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz showed how strong he can be on hard, slow court in his final bout at last year’s Indian Wells Masters.

He should now be considered the favorite, but he has had injury problems this year, twisting his ankle in Rio in February and being forced to withdraw from the tournament.

Although Alcaraz said he is confident he will return to 100% by the start of the match in Indian Wells, the lack of training could be a cause for concern. The Spaniard has only played nine matches in 2024, losing three of them. However, if Alcaraz is fit, Carlos could compete for the trophy.

Daniel Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev was on the verge of success at Indian Wells last year, but Carlos Alcaraz took the title away from him.

However, the Russian quickly bounced back, winning the title at another American Masters in Miami two weeks later. This year, Medvedev poses an even greater threat. In the 2024 season, he lost two matches: the Australian Open final against Jannik Sinner and the Dubai semi-final against Hugo Humbert. But that’s because Daniil missed almost all of the 2024 tournaments.

Jannik sinner

Jannik Sinner has not lost a single match this season. His Australian Open title was the big breakthrough he had been waiting for for two years.

The Italian’s victory in Rotterdam was also impressive considering how he handled the pressure of being a Grand Slam winner.

Sinner’s statistics for service wins (84%) and returns (27%) are the second highest on the ATP Tour in 2024.

Novak Djokovic

The Serbian’s statistics in Indian Wells are 50:9. In comparison, the second best player on this list, Daniil Medvedev, is far behind with a score of 11-6.

He has not played since Melbourne and is looking forward to a new challenge.

Another factor working in Djokovic’s favor is the lack of pressure on him. With the world number one spot secured until April, the Serbian can get out on the pitch and have some fun.
