CAS rejected Belarusian Tennis Federation’s appeal against suspension of ITF membership

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected the appeal of the Belarusian Tennis Federation (BTF) against the decision of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to suspend the BTF’s membership of the organization, said the president of the Belarusian federation Sergei Rutenko.

The ITF Council suspended the BTF’s membership and suspended Belarusian tennis players from participating in team tournaments in March 2022. BTF appealed the decision to the CAS in May of the same year.

— The appeal filed by the Belarusian Tennis Federation against the decision of the ITF Council has been rejected. We are studying the possibility of appealing to the Swiss Federal Court.

We did not violate any point of the charters of the organization, during our membership we fulfilled all our obligations and even after being deregistered we had to pay dues. In any case, we will provide our athletes with competitive practice, but the fact is that players must participate in ranking tournaments, this is what we have been fighting for for two years. Not all young tennis players have the opportunity to travel abroad and perform there, quotes Rutenko BELT .
