6 white wines for Easter (and their fish and seafood pairing)

Whether by religious conviction or simply by tradition, many people prefer seafood on Good Friday. This also sparks interest in white varieties. Here are seven proposals, accompanied by their respective suggestions.

Morandé Sauvignon Blanc Vitis Única

Here we have an elegant Sauvignon Blanc, with very delicate aromas, which transport us through herbs and citrus fruits. In the mouth we feel its minerality, in addition to certain citrus notes and a finish that evokes peach, which lingers very pleasantly on the palate.

Faced with such a distinguished wine, it is better not to complicate things and simply enjoy it with good oysters. But be careful: if you prepare a vinaigrette for them with very small chopped shallots, plus a good quantity of sherry vinegar, the result will be even more comforting.

Sémillon Block Series J. Bouchon

One of my favorite white varieties, and which fortunately vineyards like Bouchon are responsible for recovering and putting on the market, is Sémillon. This particular line is characterized by an intense yellow color, almost orange, with an eminently lemony nose although with some sweet touches. On the palate, it’s just that: a juicy and smooth wine, which turns out to be really pleasant. For the same reason, it goes wonderfully with a baked sierra accompanied by vegetable puree.

Gewürztraminer South Cone Cycling

This specimen is an excellent option in terms of value for money for a wine made from this grape variety that is as difficult to pronounce as it is intense to drink. Very fruity on the nose, on the palate it is fresh and powerful, almost creamy. It goes very well with a spicy or Ecuadorian shrimp curry. Now, if you can get some domestic shrimp, simply sauteed with garlic and goat’s pepper, it will go perfectly with this gewürztraminer from the Cono Sur winery.

Casa Silva Fresh Coast Chardonnay

This wine comes from vineyards located in Paredones, near the coast of the O’Higgins region, and therefore has a fresh fruit aroma that really appeals. On the palate, in turn, it is mineral and with a lot of fruit. Although it can be eaten alone as an aperitif, it goes very well with some clams al matico and hopefully mixed with a few piures. Or, if you prefer, simply with a few raw clams with a few drops of lemon. It’s a well-known fact: in the end, less is usually more.

Riesling Matetic Corralillo

A great wine for any occasion. With fruity aromas, but at the same time quite complex, on the palate it maintains this tone but also adds a certain acidity. In short: fills the mouth with lots of flavor. It would surely go very well with any fish, but I think it would not play badly with some parmesan machas, cutting with its fruity notes the creaminess of the cheese and butter of this preparation.

Apaltagua Reserve Pinot Gris

A sober wine, already at a very good price, which surprises with fruity aromas contrasted with a flavor which, although it continues with the fruit, also gains an acidity which makes it persistent. All this makes it ideal to accompany long pasta with oysters, garlic and lots of parsley.
