After three-set matches with Clara Towson and Taylor Townsend, Rybakina reached the fourth round, where she defeated Madison Keys.
In the quarterfinals, Rybakina met fellow WTA top 10 player Maria Sakkari. In the first set, Elena led 4-2, but her opponent immediately bounced back. When Sakkari tried to serve for a tiebreak with the score at 5-6, Rybakina broke and won the set.
The Greek led with a break twice in the second set, but failed to maintain the advantage. She saved a few match points at 4-5 before winning the set in a tiebreaker.
Rybakina was the first to break in the third set and lead with a score of 4-3. Then, Sakkari won two more match points on her serve and made the score 4-5, but Rybakina finished her off on her serve and finished the match with a victory with a score of 7-5, 6- 7 (4), 6. -4.
Azarenka, meanwhile, beat Peyton Stearns, Zheng Qingwen and Katie Boulter to set up a quarterfinal showdown against Yulia Putintseva. The former world number one fought back twice during breaks in the opening set and saved three set points before winning the tiebreaker.
Putintseva came back strong in the second set to win 6-1, but Azarenka responded with a 5-1 lead in the third set to win 7-6 (4), 1-6, 6-3 .
Rybakina leads in matches with Azarenka with the score 3:0.
