Russian tennis player Maria Timofeeva reported that scammers stole 10,000 euros from him during his stay in Madrid.
“In the last few days, while I was in Madrid, someone spent money with my card and wrote off around 10,000 euros. I’m shocked because I don’t know how this could have happened. I had the card with me the entire time, except for one time when I left it in the hotel room while it was being cleaned. The purchases were made here, in approximately the same area of Madrid. Usually online purchases require a confirmation code, which is usually sent to my phone, but it didn’t arrive. It’s just crazy,” Timofeeva said in a video she posted on social media.
The 20-year-old athlete is ranked 99th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings. The Russian arrived in Madrid to participate in the tournament of the WTA 1000 category, but failed to pass the qualifying round.
