Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva has admitted that she carries with her a frame with a comment from former world number one Andy Murray on it.
In January, after Andreeva’s victory in the third round of the Australian Open, the Briton wrote on a social network that Andreeva’s strength lies in her winning mentality and strict attitude towards herself on the ground.
Andreeva will celebrate her 17th birthday on April 29.
“I told you I would frame his comment.” Now I actually have a frame with his comment inside! It was a gift from my friend, and the frame with the words of Andy Murray is always with me in my bag. So when I said that, I wasn’t kidding. “I did it for real,” Andreeva said, as quoted by Tennis.com.
The athlete also spoke about the main change on the psychological level, which allows him to feel more mature on the field.
— I feel more mature, even if the age difference is small. Last year I was hoping for some kind of miracle playing against everyone. I hoped that in tense moments my opponents would let me make something of my mistakes or that something would happen so I could just win the match. Now I know and I am convinced that I cannot win without doing it myself. I can’t hope that my opponent will do something that will help me win, because that will never happen.
This was the main change for me, because in my head and on a mental level I feel more mature,” added Andreeva.
In the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid, Andreeva will face Czech Marketa Vondrousova.
