Swiatek defeated Wang Xia, Sorana Cirstia and Sara Sorribes Tormo in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals. She then defeated Beatrice Addad Maia to advance to the semi-finals, where she faced Madison Keys.
Swiatek dominated the first set, allowing only one game. Keys raised his level of play in the second set, but it wasn’t enough to stop Szwiatek, who won the match 6-1, 6- 3.
Sabalenka began her title defense with three-set victories over Magda Linett, Robyn Montgomery and Danielle Collins. She then scored an easy 6-1, 6-4 victory over Mirra Andreeva to reach the semi-finals, where she faced world number 4 Elena Rybakina.
Sabalenka was completely dominated in the first set, Arina only won one game. In the second set, she was within a few points of losing twice.
Rybakina led 5-4, had 30-30 on her serve, but eventually gave up the match, then lost two more and Sabalenka evened the score. Both tennis players showed excellent serves in the third set. In the tie-break that followed, Sabalenka led 5-1, but the latter reduced the gap to 6-5. However, the Belarusian held back and won a comeback with a score of 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (5).
Szwiatek leads against Sabalenka with a score of 6-3 in head-to-head matches. Iga won her last meeting at the 2023 WTA Finals in straight sets.
