Italian tennis player Jasmine Paolini admitted that she was nervous on the eve of the match against the Russian Mirra Andreeva in the semi-final of Roland-Garros.
On Thursday, the 28-year-old Italian, seeded 12th in the tournament, beat 17-year-old Andreeva 6:3, 6:1 to reach the French Open final.
– Of course, I’m more happy than relieved. It was a difficult match. Mirra’s performance is incredible. She’s only 17, but she’s so perfect. I was nervous before the match because I lost to her a month ago. I said to myself: “Come on… You have to do better.” I was worried in the first set, but with every ball I won, I relaxed. I am happy that I finally managed to win,” quotes Paolini in The Tennis Letter.
For Andreeva, it was the first semi-final of a Grand Slam tournament in her career. Paolini’s opponent in the final will be world number one Iga Szwiatek of Poland.
