Swiss tennis player Stanislas Wawrinka has received a wild card for the 2024 Olympic Games.
For 39-year-old Wawrinka, this Olympics will be the third in his career – he previously took part in the Olympic Games in 2008 in Beijing and in 2012 in Tokyo. Stanislas missed the Games in 2016 and 2020 due to injuries.
In Beijing 2008, Wawrinka also won a gold medal in doubles playing with his compatriot Roger Federer. In singles at the Olympic Games, Wawrinka did not manage to reach further than the second round.
Wawrinka is currently ranked 93rd in the ATP rankings, the Swiss’s highest achievement was being ranked no. 3. Stanislas has won three Grand Slam tournaments: the Australian Open in 2014, Roland Garros in 2015, and the US Open in 2016.
Earlier it was also reported that Rafael Nadal is expected to compete at the 2024 Olympic Games, but will skip Wimbledon to prepare for his performance in Paris.
The 2024 Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
