Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina won a hard-fought victory over Magda Linett from Poland in the first round Wimbledon 2024.
Let us recall that this match was supposed to take place on Tuesday, July 2, but was moved up a day due to rain.
In the end, the match lasted two hours and forty minutes. Each of the three sets was a fierce struggle. In the first of them, Svitolina managed the only break at 5:5. In the end, the set went to the Ukrainian.
The Polish tennis player managed to get revenge in the second set. With the game tied, it went to a tie-break. There Magda missed three set points, after which her Elina had the opportunity to finish the match, but she did not use it. The result was 11:9 in favor of Linette.
In the third set, the former first racket of Ukraine realized two breaks against one and celebrated a difficult but deserved victory. In the next round, Elina will face German Jule Niemeyer.
In the first round of the British major, in addition to Svitolina, seven more Ukrainians played.
