Sports citizenship on the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) website Elina Avanesian changed from Russian to Armenian.
In June, Armenian Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Karen Giloyan announced that the Pyatigorsk-born athlete would compete for Armenia.
On Monday, August 5, in the updated WTA ranking, Avanesyan was designated as the representative of Armenia. At the same time, in the profile of the 21-year-old tennis player, where the Armenian flag already appears, her country is still listed as Russia.
Avanesyan is ranked 58th in the world. In July, she reached the first WTA tournament final of her career in the Romanian city of Iasi, where she lost to Russian Mirra Andreeva.
