Djokovic will be favourite at US Open if he maintains Olympic motivation, says Ivanisevic

Novak Djokovic will be among the favorites at the US Open this season if he maintains the motivation that helped him win the Paris Olympics, former Serbian-Croatian coach Goran Ivanisevic said.

Djokovic won the gold medal at the 2024 Olympics by defeating Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the final – 7:6 (7:3), 7:6 (7:2). Earlier this season, the Serb lost to Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final. In March, Djokovic announced the end of his collaboration with Ivanisevic, who had been part of his coaching team since 2018.

– Novak wasn’t on the court in the Wimbledon final, but here it was clear: if they had stayed on the court for another five hours, the result would have been the same. Novak flew, Novak danced. People forgot that it was his first Olympic final, he felt that was all he had to take advantage of this opportunity. But given how crazy he is, it wouldn’t surprise me if I saw him at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

“I’m so happy that he finally won this gold medal. I wish him to win his 25th Grand Slam, to break the all-time record, and then he can retire, even if this guy will never retire. I think he can find the motivation. We don’t have a crystal ball, but if he is motivated the same way he was at the Olympics, he will be the favorite in New York,” Ivanisevic told Tennis Majors.

The main draw of the 2024 US Open will take place from August 26 to September 8. Djokovic is the defending winner of the tournament.
