Athletistic/Tennis. On the night of August 29-30, Moscow time, the third world number, Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, completed his performance at the US Open (US Open – 2024) in men’s singles. In the second round, Alcaraz lost to the representative of the Netherlands, Botik van de Zandshulp, with a score of 1:6, 5:7, 4:6.

After Alcaraz’s defeat, there were no Spanish players left in the men’s singles draw at the 2024 US Open. Previously, Roberto Carballes-Baena (55th in the ATP ranking), Roberto Bautista Agut (67th) and Pedro Martinez-Portero (43rd) had also retired from the tournament in the second round. Four Spaniards were eliminated in the first round: Jaume Munar (84th), Albert Ramos-Vinolas (122nd), Pablo Carreno Busta (213th) and Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina (59th).
In this way, the Spanish have set a national anti-record of the 21st century: the last time no Spaniard remained in the third round of the men’s singles draw at the US Open was in 1999.
