The Ukrainian made it to the third round of the “thousandth” in Beijing
Ukrainian tennis player Yulia Starodubtseva commented on the successful match against the 37th racket of the world Katerina Sinyakova from the Czech Republic and reaching the third round of the WTA 1000 in Beijing (China).
“If you compare it with our fight in Berlin, today everything was heading in the right direction. Today I played more through her right hand. In Berlin, I transferred more to her left side than this time. So I think this plan worked well today and helped me.”
“In general, the fight was not easy, despite the score. At 3-2 in the second set, we had such a protracted game that if I had lost it, it remains to be seen which way the match would have gone. She reacted a little negatively to her mistakes, which of course didn’t help her.”
“Did I manage to be completely focused on the game? Honestly, there are always all sorts of moments during a game, especially when you are serving for a set or a match, when thoughts come into your head that now you can win this set or this match and you try to push these thoughts away, but nevertheless I didn’t convert my several set points, as well as the first match point.”
“Here is an ordinary hard court, not very fast, not very slow. Nothing unusual, I like it. I think it’s somewhat similar to the Australian Open. If we talk about the weather, when I first arrived it was very humid and very hot, then it rained and this week the temperature is ideal for playing tennis, about 24 degrees. It’s not very windy, the weather is just great.”
The fight between Starodubtseva and Sinyakova lasted one hour and 39 minutes. In two sets, the Ukrainian scored two aces and six breaks, losing only two “her” games. Let us note that the victory over the Czech woman became the highest-rated in Yulia’s career.
Starodubtseva made it into the main draw of the WTA 1000 tournament for the first time in her career, having successfully qualified. In the first round, Julia defeated Laura Siegemund from Germany.
Also, Ukraine is represented at the event in Beijing by Marta Kostyuk and Dayana Yastremskaya. Angelina Kalinina dropped out of the competition at the tournament, losing in the first round to Rebecca Shramkova.
