The Italian Yannick, world number one Fisherman said he was trying to focus on tennis despite news that the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) had filed an appeal in his case with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Last week, WADA announced that it had appealed the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s (ITIA) decision in Sinner’s case to CAS. In August, the ITIA announced that the Italian had passed two positive doping tests in March. He avoided disqualification because he proved that the banned substance, clostebol, entered his body by accident. WADA requires that the athlete be suspended for a period of one to two years.
– Firstly, this is not a situation you would like to find yourself in, is it? This is a very delicate, complex and unusual situation. I always try to remind myself that I didn’t do anything wrong, which in itself makes me feel a little better. Of course, I had sleepless nights. Now it won’t be easy.
I am obviously disappointed to relive this situation. I try to somehow focus on my work and do everything possible to be ready for every match. This is a very difficult time for me and my team. “I also keep people close with whom I feel very good, people who know me as a person,” Sinner said at a press conference.
On Monday, Sinner reached the semi-finals of the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing, beating Czech Jiri Legecka. The Italian’s next opponent will be the Chinese Bu Yongchaokete.
