The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has registered the appeal filed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) against the decision of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) in the case of the world number one. Jannik sinner .
In August, the ITIA announced that the Italian had passed two positive doping tests in March. He avoided disqualification because he proved that the banned substance, clostebol, entered his body by accident.
It should be noted that in its appeal, WADA demands the annulment of the contested decision and asks the CAS to disqualify the athlete for a period of one to two years and to confirm the annulment of all competitive results of Sinner at the Masters Series tournament in Indian Wells. The defendants are the player, the ITIA and the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
The CAS arbitration proceedings have started and a panel of arbitrators is being formed to make a decision on this issue. Once established, the committee will issue instructions for the next step in the procedure, including holding hearings. Based on their results, the commission will make an arbitration decision. It is currently impossible to indicate when it will be adopted.
The decision of the CAS will be final and binding, except for the right of the parties to bring an action before the Swiss Federal Court.
Sinner, 23, has topped the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings since June. He won 16 tournaments under the auspices of the organization, including two Grand Slam tournaments: the Australian Open and the US Open.
