Medvedev: “If I don’t play better in the next match, I will be happy to be eliminated from the ATP final tournament”

Russian tennis player Daniel Medvedev admitted that he is waiting for the end of the season and will be happy to be eliminated from the final ATP tournament if he does not show a good game in the next match.

On Sunday, Medvedev lost to American Taylor Fritz (4:6, 3:6) in the first match of the group stage of the ATP Finals tournament in Turin.

—What should you do in the next match?

– I have no idea. Just try to play better. If that doesn’t work, I’ll be happy to fly away. If it works, I will happily continue. Let’s see.

— Do you want the season to end?

– 100%. This is the first time I’ve said this. Usually the final tournament is not easy for me. I’m a good fighter, but now I’m tired of fighting everything that doesn’t depend on me.

I feel like I can still beat a lot of players. I could still win now if I was in better shape or had better luck. We will have a good pre-season and see where I can improve. I feel like I’m at a disadvantage, but I have to do something. I haven’t yet found the exact solution to go to the courts with the desire to play tennis. Tactics do not matter much, the main thing is to fight and serve well,” Medvedev quotes Puntodebreak.

Medvedev’s next opponent in the tournament will be Australian Alex De Minaur.
