Krulko: Athletes face challenge to maintain quota at World Cup and IBU Cup

Four stages left until the end of the season, including the 2023 World Cup

The president Biathlon Federation of Ukraine Ivan Krulko spoke about the motivation for Ukrainian biathletes and the tasks for the rest of the season.

“We need to keep the quota for both the World Cup and the IBU Cup. Athletes are faced with just such a task, ”Krulko emphasized.

“At the end of last year, we gathered the final Presidium of the Biathlon Federation, at which we approved the motivation system from the Federation, which will be calculated exactly from the number of points that each athlete scored in the IBU Nations Cup and the Nations Cup at the World Cup.”

“Why this system of motivation? It is expressed in terms of money. This will be a kind of bonus for athletes at the end of the season. Just so that they understand that it is important for us to maintain the quota, and the quota is taken from the points that we gain. So that our athletes fight for every place, because each place brings points, and points, respectively, at the end of the season will be a nice bonus in monetary terms for our athletes.”

This season in the IBU World Cup, Ukraine has the right to register 7 athletes for the stage. It is possible to attract 5 athletes to participate in men’s and women’s races.

Ahead of the season is the 2023 World Cup. It will be held in the German Oberhof from 8 to 19 February. The mixed relay will open the competition, and the event will end with two mass starts. Athletes will also play three stages in the World Cup.

People’s Deputy Krulko became the new president of the FBU after the conference, which took place on November 15. 58 participants voted for him, the leader of the men’s biathlon team of Ukraine Dmitry Pidruchny scored 31 votes. Krulko replaced Volodymyr Brynzak, who led the Ukrainian biathlon since 1998.
