Biathlete Pashchenko: “I could retire after the 3rd marathon shot, but out of respect for the fans, I couldn’t afford it”

Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra National Team Biathlete Petr Pashchenko told that he did not allow himself to finish the marathon in advance as part of the PARI Russian Championship in Uvat out of respect for the organizers and the fans.

Pashchenko took 21st place in the men’s 40km. On the seventh line of fire, the biathlete mistakenly shot at someone else’s installation.

– In fact, after the new year, I started having some problems at the counter. I noticed several times that I was doing for someone else’s installation, but I always checked myself. At the end of the season, I caught a kind of relaxation, although everything went well in training yesterday: the zeroing went perfectly. But today, from the first border, he started making mistakes. I made adjustments, but it didn’t work. This is probably the error at the seventh border. To be honest, I didn’t even know that, I only found out at the finish line. They probably didn’t bother me. I could have given up after the third down, but out of respect for the organizers and the fans who came here for us, I couldn’t.

— Do you want to participate in such biathlon marathons?

— It’s probably my last biathlon marathon (laughs). I don’t really like this format, because my back gets tired. Walking such a long distance with a weapon is a very difficult story for your health. We’ll see, I’m not promising anything – we’ll see next year,” Pashchenko told .

will also broadcast the women’s 30km marathon live. The show begins Thursday at 8:40 a.m. Moscow time.
