Luge and skeleton competitions at the 2026 Games will take place outside Italy

The bobsleigh, luge and skeleton competitions at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo will be held outside Italy, said Giovanni Malago, president of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI).

“Just a few days ago the government informed us of the need to consider the best and most acceptable option, that of abandoning the construction of a toboggan center in Cortina and moving it to an existing site .

We are working to explore all possible solutions and alternatives with the IOC and international federations before submitting a choice for final approval. In this regard, it is important to remember that such a decision will affect operational activities and have implications on the budget of the organizing committee, Malago said during the IOC session in Mumbai.

According to Inside the Games, the Austrian city of Innsbruck has offered the 2026 Games organizing committee the use of its track.

For the third time in the history of the Games, individual competitions will take place outside the host country. The sailing tournament of the 1920 Games in Antwerp (Belgium) took place in the Netherlands; During the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne (Australia), the equestrian competitions were moved to Stockholm.

The Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo will take place in February 2026.
