The first Olympic skeleton champion in Russian history Alexander Tretyakov On , he said he was allowing himself to take part in the Games after 40 years.
– How old are you?
– 38.
– GOOD!
– As a skeleton – yes! But there are already coaches in the national team who are younger than me (laughs). Even so, sometimes they get lost and don’t know how to contact me. They get lost when I call them by their first and last name.
That year, I ran nine hundredths worse than my personal best. This is probably the best result among all our Russian athletes.
— So, no one has reached your overclocking peak yet?
— My world starting records still stand. The international season took place without us, without me. From the looks of it, it looked like none of my starting records had been broken.
— What songs do you have records on?
– At first?
– Yes
– Almost everybody.
— Can you imagine yourself at the start of 40?
– Now I can completely imagine. If, let’s say, everything goes well and our team is allowed to compete in the Winter Olympics (in 2026), I will be over 40. And so far, age is not a limiting factor for me. Such factors are those that do not depend on me,” Tretyakov said in a special report by Dmitry Zanin “One for All” on .
Tretyakov won Olympic gold in 2014 and also became world champion (2013) and double European champion (2007, 2021).
