Former Russian national team biathlete Olga Podchufarova told that after he started coaching, his sports equipment sewing business continued to generate income.
After finishing her career, the biathlete opened a business specializing in sewing sportswear for skiing. Podchufarova coaches the juniors in Moscow.
– How is business going?
— Last year everything went very well, now that I’m coaching at the same time, the process has slowed down a little. But I’m happy with how it all started. Here, I go alone.
— Which athletes use your equipment?
— Many: Katya Yurlova, Larisa Kuklina and several regional athletes. Everybody is happy. We are open and ready to cooperate.
— Does it generate income?
— It’s true, this year we reached balance. I hope there will be an increase.
— Do you still train the children?
— Mainly children, region — Moscow. There is still adolescence. I have a small group of five people. When we are already competing, we team up with other subgroups, so we have a team of our own.
— Would you like to continue your coaching career?
— It’s difficult to say because it’s the first year. I can say this with certainty: working as a coach is much more difficult than being an athlete. That’s what I felt. This is interesting from the point of view of intellectual development, but there are also other factors to take into account. Yes and no, that is my answer.
— Biathletes don’t become coaches because they aren’t ready to go back to endless training camps. How’s that going with that?
— Yes, the most difficult thing for me now is the trips, of which there are many. I left mid-October and only came back last night. Constant moving, a gypsy suitcase life. It’s emotionally difficult,” Podchufarova told .
Podchufarova announced her retirement on April 30, 2018, but already in August 2019 she announced her return to the sport. In January 2021, she was unable to join the Slovenian national team because she did not obtain citizenship of that country. Olga finally retired from biathlon in 2022.
The biathlete became a bronze medalist in the mixed relay at the 2017 World Championships in Hochfilzen.
