Biathlete Natalia Shevchenko said she didn’t expect to be in a leadership position last season.
Following the results of the 2023/24 season, Shevchenko won the overall ranking of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBR), gaining 1099 points. Next came Victoria Slivko (1066) and Irina Kazakevich (958). The SBR ranking took into account all competitions of the season: the races of the Alfa-Bank Championship and the Cup of Russia, the Commonwealth Cup and the Spartakiad of the Strongest. In 2022, Shevchenko transitioned from cross-country skiing to biathlon.
— When I switched to biathlon two years ago, I didn’t expect such results. But I worked and I believed in myself. Thank you to the SBR for undertaking such an experiment. I prove that I am here for a reason, I am happy.
My teammates did not take me seriously at the beginning of my journey, but later they got used to my progress, considered me and I am happy that they perceive me as a leader. Before the season started, I didn’t even expect to be among the leaders.
The elimination of international competitions played into my hands. During these two years, I was able to observe all the biathletes as much as possible and learn from their experience. I followed the World Cup and watched the individual races. “I do not communicate with any of the foreign biathletes, I have not competed yet,” reports the correspondent of , reporting Shevchenko’s words.
