The IBU will maintain sanctions regarding Russian and Belarusian biathletes for the 2024/25 season

The IBU Congress in Belgrade will not consider the issue of the return of Russians in any status

International Biathlon Union (IBU) will maintain sanctions regarding Russian and Belarusian athletes for the 2024/25 season.

The IBU Congress, which is taking place in Belgrade, will not consider the issue of Russians returning to competition in any status, including as neutral athletes. The suspension will remain in effect for the next season.

Let us remind you that the IBU excluded the federations of Russia and Belarus from among its participants in March 2022 against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion. The Union later extended these sanctions. IBU President Olle Dahlin stated that any changes are impossible as long as Russia’s war against Ukraine continues.

Earlier, the International Ski Federation officially suspended the Russian team from participation in the upcoming 2024/25 season. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, athletes from Russia and Belarus have been prohibited from participating in all international ski competitions, and there are no changes in this matter for the upcoming season.

Early in the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia launched rocket and air bombardments of most Ukrainian cities, and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The Russian war against Ukraine has continued for the 948th day.
