The NBA has strengthened burden sharing rules and introduced fines for clubs – media

The NBA Board of Governors approved stricter rules regarding player load sharing and attendance at games, including nationally televised games, ESPN reported.

Teams are now prohibited from resting two star players at the same time during a regular season game. Star players are those who have played in the All-Star Game or made the All-Star team in the last three years.

Enforcement of this policy will be based on recommendations from the league office, which will include independent medical examinations.

The NBA will introduce a system of fines for teams: $100,000 for the first offense, $250,000 for the second offense and $1 million more than the previous fine for each additional offense.

The explanatory note states that teams must build their squads so that a maximum of one star player misses each game. They must also ensure that healthy basketball players who are resting before a game are present in the arena and visible to fans.
