The owner of the Wizards and Capitals plans to move the franchises from the US capital to another city.
The capital of the United States may lose representatives in the NHL and NBA. According to The Athletic, the majority owner of the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals, Ted Leonsis, has announced plans to move his clubs to Virginia.
The functionary was prompted to make such a move through a modern arena, which should open in the state before 2028, subject to the approval of the legislature.
Note that both teams currently play in Washington at Capital One Arena, which was built in 1997.
Such relocation plans did not only scare the authorities in the District of Columbia. Regional Mayor Muriel Bowser is committed to spending $500 million to renovate Capital One Arena in the hopes that it will prevent Leonsis from moving.
We remind you that the Washington Capitals lost their last NHL game in Philadelphia.
