Russian mixed martial arts fighter Roman Kopylov told he expected an easier victory Khamzata Chimaeva on the Nigerian Kamaru Usman at UFC 294.
On Saturday, Chimaev, representing the United Arab Emirates, defeated Usman by decision. It was previously announced that the winner of this fight would meet American UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland.
– To be honest, I thought Chimaev would easily take care of Usman. And as a result of the battle, we noticed some problems. I thought it would be easier. And they showed excellent fighting. Everyone, apparently, was cautious – after all, advancing at such a level is difficult, although Usman could have tried to take a risk, because he had nothing to lose, – Kopylov told .

In the main fight of the tournament, the organization’s lightweight champion, Russian Islam Makhachev, knocked out the featherweight belt holder, Australian Alexander Volkanovski, in the first round. These fighters met in February in Australia, when Makhachev won by unanimous decision.
“Islam ended their confrontation with a big knockout. Congratulations to him on his victory. It is a pity that in the fight with Magomed Ankalaev (his fight with Johnny Walker was declared invalid) there was such a misunderstanding. And so, congratulations to all our guys who achieved victories,” added Kopylov.
