WBC President Mauricio Suleiman commented on the expected fight for the absolute world title between the holder of the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO titles Alexander Usik and WBC champion Tyson Fury.
“I’m very excited about this fight because we’ve been waiting for it for a long time. Usik is an absolute in the cruiserweight. He took the chance to move up to heavyweight. Many doubted him, but he proved his worth. He defeated Joshua twice and made a successful defense. He is an incredible fighter fighting the best in the world. This will be a historic battle. Possibly the biggest event in boxing history.”
Usyk and Fury signed a contract to fight for the undisputed title. It was reported that the fight is planned to take place on December 23 or January 2024 in Saudi Arabia.
The unification fight between Usik and Fury was planned for April 2023, but it did not take place. The Ukrainian, after successfully defending his titles with Briton Daniel Dubois, again challenged Tyson to a fight.
Fury will fight former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. The 10-round fight will take place on October 28 in the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh.
It is expected that immediately after Tyson’s meeting with Francis and the fight, the final date for the unification fight between Fury and Usyk will be confirmed. According to the “Gypsy King”, the meeting in the ring with the Ukrainian specified in the contract is December 23, 2023.
