Croatian finalizes deal to fight Daniel Dubois
Promoter Eddie Hearn says mandatory challenger for IBF title Filip Hrgovic has the opportunity to fight for the vacant belt with an opponent convenient for him. After this, the winner of the match will meet Anthony Joshua.
Earlier it was reported that the Croatian boxer was finalizing a deal for a fight with Briton Daniel Dubois. The fight is scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia on June 1. The Hrgovic-Dubois fight will take place on the undercard of the fight between WBC, WBO and IBF champion Artur Beterbiev against WBO champion Dmitry Bivol for the title of absolute light heavyweight champion.
The Croatian also stated that he wants to fight Joshua. According to Hearn, Anthony’s fight with the winner of the Hrgovic-Dubois fight can be organized in September 2024.
The IBF heavyweight belt is held by Ukrainian Alexander Usik, who is preparing to fight Tyson Fury for the title of absolute world champion. WBC President Mauricio Suleiman announced that an agreement had been concluded between the boxers for a re-fight. If Tyson and his Ukrainian opponent agree on a rematch as their next fight, the IBF heavyweight championship belt will become vacant.
Let us remind you that on the night of March 9, Joshua won a knockout victory over former UFC champion Francis Ngannou. Hrgovic, as part of the “Day of Reckoning” boxing evening in Riyadh on December 23, 2023, defeated Mark De Mori from Australia by technical knockout in the first round.
