According to TASS, Russian boxers have now returned to the WBO rankings. It should be noted that the current WBO light heavyweight champion is the Russian Artur Beterbiev.
Previously, the decision to lift sanctions against Russian representatives was made by the World Boxing Association (WBA) and the International Boxing Federation (IBF).
WBO was established in the late 80s of the 20th century by businessmen from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. In the 90s of the last century, the organization gained authority in Europe, but in the United States until the mid-2000s it was considered secondary. Since 2007, the WBO belt has been considered mandatory for absolute world champion status, in the same way as the WBA, WBC and IBF.
