One of the most powerful Russian Muay Thai fighters Dmitri Kovtoun from Chelyabinsk will make his debut in Asia’s premier martial arts league ONE Championship at the ONE Fight Night 24 tournament.
The tournament will take place at Lumpini Stadium in Bangkok and will be broadcast live in the early morning of August 3 on and Match Fighter channels. The fight will take place in the bantamweight category (65.8 kg). On this card, Kovtun will replace another Russian fighter: initially, the rival of the rising Thai star Ferrari Fairtex was supposed to be a fighter from Yekaterinburg, Vladimir Kuzmin, who had to withdraw from the fight.
Chelyabinsk athlete Dmitry Kovtun is the Russian Muay Thai champion in the weight category up to 60 kg and has already participated in the RCC Fairfight and Muaythai Factory tournaments. Ferrari Fairtex (136-32-4), 26, is known for his flashy shots and ability to put extreme pressure on his opponent. He has been competing in ONE since 2023 and has had 7 fights, five of which he won. He is currently on a four-fight winning streak, including victories over Russians Ilyas Musaev and Kirill Khomutov.
Ferrari Fairtex comes from a family of athletes. He is the son of a Muay Thai fighter and started training at the age of seven. As a child, Ferrari lost 10 fights in a row, so his family and neighbors thought he should give up Muay Thai. However, his father made a big bet that his son would win his 11th fight, and he did!
Ferrari was named Thailand’s Fighter of the Year 2021 and is one of the most popular fighters in the stadiums. A resounding victory over Kovtun could be enough for Ferrari to become a contender for the welterweight world boxing title.
The main event of ONE Fight Night 24 will be a fight between Jarred Brooks and Cuban Olympic wrestler Gustavo Balarte in the ONE strawweight (56.7 kg) category under MMA rules.
In addition to Kovtun, Russia will be represented by a fighter from Dagestan, Shamil Kobra Gasanov, who will face Aaron Canarte in a fight under MMA rules in the ONE featherweight division (70.3 kg).
