Dane Ljungqvist is a good and quite serious opponent for Gassiev, says Kravtsov

The Dane Kem Ljungqvist is a good and serious opponent for Murata Gassieva at this stage of the Russian’s career, Eduard Kravtsov, chairman of the coaching council of the Russian Boxing Federation, told .

On Thursday it became known that Gassiev will meet Ljungqvist on October 19 in Vienna at the IBA Night of Champions tournament. The fight will take place in the heavyweight division and will consist of 10 rounds. The last time Gassiev, who will turn 31 on October 12, entered the ring at the end of September 2023 in Turkey, when he lost to Swede Otto Wallin by split decision in a fight for the second line of the IBF rankings. Gassiev was the WBA and IBF cruiserweight champion. Since 2020, the Russian has competed in the heavyweight category. In the professional ring, Gassiev won 30 victories and suffered two defeats.

“I am aware that organizing this battle was quite difficult. Ljungqvist is a fairly well-known heavyweight and after the last defeat he is a very good and serious opponent for Murat. The Dane is tall and left-handed. To a certain extent, Murat’s team wants to prove to themselves that Gassiev is capable of boxing with boxers of a given style and anthropometry. I consider Murat a favorite. And if he wins, Gassiev has every chance to move up the ladder and reach the best opposition in this division,” Kravtsov told .

Ljungqvist has 18 victories in the professional ring. The 34-year-old Dane was the IBF international heavyweight champion. There was a break in his career from January 2020 to April 2022. Since then, Ljungqvist has won eight fights in Denmark. BoxRec ranks Ljungqvist among the top 25 heavyweights in the world.
